Alpe d'Huez is one of Europe's premier skiing venues and offers a record number of clear sky skiing days across the season. With 249 km of piste and 85 ski lifts, the resort is now one of the world's largest and consists of seven different ski areas, each served by an excellent lift system.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Alpe d'Huez appeals to beginner skiers, with some very easy wide open slopes and a compliment of beginner areas nearer the resort. The linked resorts of Vaujany, Oz-en-Oisans, Villard Reculas and Auris boost the quantity and quality of intermediate and advanced grade slopes. The resort is also very well known for free skiing, drawing many steep skiing enthusiasts to its high altitude terrain and glacier.

Snowboarders will also be delighted with the two snow parks and immense variety of free-riding terrain available.

The resort boasts some 700 snow cannons, which virtually guarantee the ski conditions throughout the season. The Visalp lift pass is also valid for 2 days in Les Deux Alpes, 1 day in Serre Chevalier, 1 day in Montgrnrvre and 1 day in Puy St. Vincent.

Apres Ski

Finding a bar in Alpe d'Huez is never a problem. Most are congregated in the Quartier des Jeux (main town) with plenty of choice for all tastes. There are various options for après ski from lively bar venues with plenty of drinking and eating opportunities to places that offer a more chilled out atmosphere to lounge and relax. There are some top dance clubs in the resort and venues featuring live bands and DJs who bring a big party atmosphere.

For those with excess energy after a day on the slopes, Alpe d'Huez boasts a sports centre, an outdoor ice rink and an outdoor heated swimming pool. The advantage of the Visalp ski pass is that holders are entitled to use these facilities free of charge. For those lacking in excess energy there is a French cinema that shows the occasional English feature with French Subtitles.
